Several consultations concerning change to, or new, schools in the county have been reported back to Bridgend Council’s Cabinet for discussion this week.
Instead of doing four/five separate posts, I’ll summarise all of them here.

The proposals are for an 8-pupil unit at Tremains School for students with Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD), and a 15-pupil unit at Ysgol Cynwyd Sant for Welsh-medium primary school students with mild learning disabilities. Admissions to both would be decided by an admissions panel.
There were no real points of controversy and most of the questions from staff, students, governors etc. seem to have been addressed.
Estyn – the school inspectorate – did make a few points of note concerning the Tremains proposal. These points included a lack of detail on the recruitment of specialist teachers and why alternative sites weren’t considered.
BCBC said that similar ASD units in other schools were at capacity so a completely new unit is justified and Tremains was best placed to be the base for it.
