Bridgend Council’s Cabinet will be asked to approve changes to BCBC’s 2022-23 capital spending programme this week (pdf). The total value of the changes is just under £10million.
£4.35million will be made available for extensions to three schools that are now deemed to be oversubscribed.
Two new classrooms will be provided at Pencoed Primary (£900,000), four new classrooms at Coety Primary (£1.65million) and a new six-classroom block at Bryntirion Comprehensive (£1.8million). Some of this funding will come from Section 106 agreements with developers.
Subject to approval, the other projects included in the revised capital programme are:
- An additional £1.5million for road and pavement resurfacing, plus an additional £500,000 towards bringing unadopted roads up to the necessary standard to be adopted by the council.
- An upgrade to telecare alarms to prepare for a BT switchover to digital landlines in 2025 (£1.405million).
- Extra funding for the Cosy Corner scheme in Porthcawl to reflect rising costs (£684,000).
- Extra money for design/engineering work for the proposed new Penprysg Road bridge in Pencoed (£500,000).
- Extra money to support the Community Asset Transfer programme (£500,000).
- Extra money for playground refurbishment – which was a Labour policy commitment at this year’s local elections (£500,000).
