Several consultations concerning change to, or new, schools in the county have been reported back to Bridgend Council’s Cabinet for discussion this week.

Issues around parking, home-school transport and active travel dominated questions about the proposed new Ysgol Bro Ogwr near Brackla (pdf).
There have been well-publicised recent problems with parking at other new-build schools in the county. Governors were told there was “open dialogue” with BCBC’s highways department over the drop-off and pick-up areas within the school site. The plans are to have separate accesses for buses (seemingly from the Industrial Estate) and parents/staff (from the Ffordd Cadfan roundabout).
While there was no commitment to introduce catchment areas for Welsh-medium primary schools in Bridgend, it was something officers “are considering, going forward”. The new school will be designed so that it could be expanded to 3-form entry in the future.
Additionally, there was confirmation that two sports pitches will be provided on-site (which could be used by the community if the school allows it) as well as an improved wetland area.
Another interesting tidbit of information that came out of the consultation is that Ysgol Gyfun Llangynwyd could, in future, be relocated to “a central part of the county” as a 3-19 school.
