Several consultations concerning change to, or new, schools in the county have been reported back to Bridgend Council’s Cabinet for discussion this week.

A new Heronsbridge Special School at Island Farm (pdf) is set to be the most significant school-related project in this council term, with the estimated cost currently projected to be £25million.
While the existing Heronsbridge site is old, it does at least have bespoke facilities – notably a swimming pool. There were concerns during the consultation that the new school wouldn’t replace the existing one like-for-like.
BCBC officers assured the governing body, staff and students that the school will be consulted over the design. The aim is for the school to be “as good as, if not better” than the current one. Specialist contractors with expertise in special school construction will also be sought.
The new school would be accessed from Bridgend Science Park. Following questions from Bridgend Town Council, officers confirmed that there will be a minor upgrade to the Ewenny Road roundabout to reduce pressure.
