McDonald’s has submitted its full plans for a proposed drive-thru on land next to Coity Road to the north of Bridgend town centre.
A public consultation on the proposals recently ended. The conclusions haven’t been published yet (though they will be included in the report if/when this goes to BCBC’s Planning Committee).
The plan includes a total of 34 parking spaces (including 6 solely for staff use, 2 motorcycle spaces and 2 disabled bays), as well as 3 EV charging stations and 6 cycle parking spaces.
A turning circle/mini roundabout would be provided at the northern end of the site (Jewsons Litchard Aggregates). Deliveries would be dropped off on this access road (hence the turning circle) rather than in the public car park area.
A drop-kerb crossing point would be provided on Coity Road near the junction.
It’s expected that up to 120 full and part-time jobs would be created if the plans go ahead, with the drive-thru operating from 6 am to midnight for 7 days a week.
As the land is on the former Coity Goods Yard and rail workings, there’s the potential for contamination.
While the ground investigation report submitted alongside the application found levels of common contaminants to be very low, 2 of 11 soil samples contained asbestos.
However, the land the samples were taken from will be covered under the car park and access road, meaning there’s “sufficiently low risk” to construction workers and the public.
