Bridgend Council’s Cabinet will be presented with a report outlining a new UK Government employment support programme (pdf).
Over the next 5 years, the Connect to Work programme aims to support up to 1,100 residents in Bridgend who are “economically inactive” into full-time employment.
This support would be open to residents who are not required to seek work as a condition of receiving benefits. It includes those of working age who can’t find work due to disability, long-term health problems, neurodiversity, homelessness, as a carer, or as an ex-offender.
It’ll also be available to people at risk of falling out of the labour market.
The programme would place those taking part into a position and support them through in-work training for up to 12 months. Taking part is voluntary.
Cardiff Council will be the lead authority to deliver the programme across the 10 local authorities in the Cardiff Capital Region. Bridgend’s programme has been allocated just under £3.7 million (after administration costs).
