At this month’s full council meeting, Cllr. Tim Thomas (Ind, St. Bride’s Minor & Ynysawdre) asked about Bridgend Council’s policy on “quiet lanes”.
Quiet lanes are a form of traffic calming for rural areas. They are usually narrow lanes that can be shared safely by motorists, pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders.
Cllr. Thomas was encouraged that BCBC’s Cabinet is considering a pilot scheme. He had been contacted by residents who would like to see the Bryncethin area included in a pilot. Cllr. Thomas also asked for assurances that local community groups and town & community councils would be consulted on any pilot.
Joint Cabinet Member for Communities, Cllr. Eugene Caparros (Lab, Brackla East & Coychurch), told members that it was great news that there was money available for a pilot, which he said would be “small scale at first”.
He would prefer to let officers decide where a pilot would be. However, Cllr. Caparros would be open to hearing from local communities – if the pilot is a success – who would like to see a quiet lane in their area.
