A public consultation on proposed improvements to walking and cycling routes between Bridgend town centre and Pen-y-fai has been extended.
As things stand, the project would be split into two phases.
Phase one would provide controlled pedestrian crossings at the Bridgend Road junction/traffic lights (pictured), as well as improvements to existing pavements in the immediate area.
Phase two proposes a shared walking and cycling path. This would run from the Brewery Field, along Tondu Road, linking to the upgraded Pen-y-fai junction after first diverting to meet the Wildmill pedestrian and cycle bridge.
The existing cycle lane along Tynton Road and Trews Field Industrial Estate would be removed.
Also, existing pavements to the north of the Pen-y-fai traffic lights will be improved as far as Glanrhyd Hospital, with a pedestrian crossing island provided near Angleton Road/lane.
There are no proposals to change speed limits along Tondu Road, with the dual carriageway section remaining at 50mph south of the railway.
Everything is subject to change and detailed design. The consultation (including the route proposals) is available here and is open until next Friday (27th September 2024).
