Bridgend Council has launched public consultations on future walking & cycling routes in Porthcawl and parts of Brackla & Coity Higher.
Porthcawl: Danygraig to The Esplanade
The first consultation – available here – puts forward three routes for a cross-town active travel link in Porthcawl.
All three options start at the Danygraig roundabout in Newton.
- The proposed Route A continues along the A4106 from the Danygraig roundabout, before running next to the Wilderness lakes and park along Heol-y-Goedwig. It then reaches Griffin Park via Woodlands Avenue and Northways.
- Route B proposes a similar route, but it diverts closer to Porthcawl Primary School.
- Route C runs along the entire length of Bridgend Road, Alderman Road and New Road.
All three routes then run between Griffin Park and the Esplanade via the Metrolink bus station/Portway.
Subject to Welsh Government funding and detailed design work, BCBC expects the chosen route to be completed during 2026-27.
Brackla & Coity: New Ysgol Bro Ogwr
A consultation for Brackla – available here – comprises two separate proposals, both of which are associated with the new Ysgol Bro Ogwr.
The first proposal is for improvements between the Princess Way subway and the Ffordd Cadfan roundabout (where the new school will be built) via the Meadows estate (pictured above).
The second proposal – five options in total – seeks to improve walking and cycling links between Wyndham Close (the “Coity end” of Brackla) and Ffordd Cadfan/Shephards Vets.
Some of these routes run directly through Brackla Industrial Estate, while others divert northwards (the Heol West Plas roundabout) and southwards (past the “8Xs”).
Again, subject to Welsh Government funding and detailed designs, BCBC expects the works to be finished during 2027-28.
