Bridgend Council’s Cabinet is set to launch a public consultation on a county-wide dog control order (pdf).
The order – known as a Public Spaces Protection Order – can only last for three years at a time.
The dog control order (pdf) would mean that:
- Dog owners MUST have bags to dispose of dog mess at all times – and actually dispose of it – in any such public place.
- Dog owners MUST put a dog on a lead if directed to by “an authorised officer”.
Failure to do any of the above will result in an on-the-spot fine. There will continue to be an exemption for disabled people whose disability would prevent them from collecting dog mess.
It’s unclear how many people in Bridgend have been fined since the first dog control order was introduced in 2019.
