Stormy Down-based renewable energy and research company, Cenin, has submitted an outline planning application for a business/industrial unit on the outskirts of Sarn.
The proposal forms part of the company’s broader “Bridgend Energy Hub” project, which proposes several energy-related projects in and around Sarn and Heol-y-Cyw. This is separate from the Hybont scheme.
The land has been allocated for business and employment use in the Local Development Plan (LDP).
The proposed unit would be built on land between the Maesteg railway line and Sarn Park services and would be accessed directly off the A4063.
As there’s a slope, the building would have a split-level ground floor, as well as an attenuation pond at the foot of the slope. Some of the land would be set aside as a protected habitat, with a small stream redirected around the building.
A public footpath which runs through the northwestern corner of the site would, seemingly, be unaffected.
Presently, the application is speculative with no known occupier. The accompanying documents say one of the main selling points is that the “modern industrial building” would be partially powered by its solar panels and therefore is aimed at “high energy users”.
As this is an outline planning application – which is to see whether a development like this is suitable – further detailed planning application(s) would need to be submitted in the future.
