A planning application has been submitted by Bridgend Council for a permanent pathway and viewing area/picnic area at Brackla Hill fields off Ger-y-Coed (aka. “The Cow Fields”).
The land was previously considered by BCBC for a replacement for Ysgol Bro Ogwr – which was ultimately rejected.
In the fallout from that decision, pledges were made to the local community that enhancements would be made to the open space.
Under the proposals, the path to the western side of Archdeacon John Lewis school (linking to the gravel car park) will be relaid with asphalt.
A picnic area/viewing platform would be provided at the end of Ger-y-Coed, with a self-binding gravel path linking the picnic area to the asphalt path.
The works will also be subject to proper precautionary measures for reptiles and other protected species that may live in the tall grass area.
Under a separate project, Brackla Community Council is seeking to build permanent steps from the Lark Rise-Primrose Close public footpath into the fields.
As of the most recent update (from June 2024), the project is on hold and will be reassessed after the proposed path and current ash dieback works in the area have been finished.
