Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health Board has included a redevelopment of Maesteg Community Hospital in its draft three-year plan for 2023-2026 (pdf – p6).
There have been concerns from politicians over the last several years about the long-term future of the hospital, but the proposal would see the hospital redeveloped into an “integrated health and wellbeing hub”.
This essentially means that services provided by different agencies – such as the health board, Bridgend Council or charities – can be accessed in one place, making better use of the site.
The aims include supporting people to stay independent and receive care closer to home, to act earlier to prevent people from developing serious illnesses and to improve waiting times for certain services.
There are no firm plans for what will happen yet, as the health board is still developing an outline case.
