A planning application for a housing development at Briary Wood in Brackla was resubmitted at the beginning of December (link).
As last time, the proposal is for three houses and a turning circle – though all reference to an additional 11 houses being built in the future has been removed from the new application.
A new tree survey has seemingly concluded that the trees in the area might be in better condition than previously thought. Only one tree is outright recommended for removal and a number have been categorised as A & B (meaning “retention desirable”).
However, the ecologist’s report (pdf) reached a similar conclusion as last time:
“The proposed development of the site would result in some loss of immature trees and scrub in the southern part of the site, adjacent to existing residential properties – this part of the site lies outside the ASNW (Ancient Seni-Natural Woodland) designation. The woodland is not currently managed and is likely to deteriorate further in a ‘do nothing scenario’ and enhancement/management measures would be appropriate as part of any development proposal to provide a localised biodiversity gain. A management plan for retained habitats (i.e. stream corridor, woodland) would be agreed with the local authority and implemented as part of any residential development at the site.”
In a step up from last time, a detailed arboricultural method statement (pdf) has also been submitted detailing how trees on the site would be protected from any works – such as by the use of fencing and root protection.
It’s unclear when comments have to be in by, though if you have strong feelings about this, given the fact it’s Christmas and New Year the sooner the comments are put in the better. There’s also a thread on the development set up by a local resident at In Your Area.
