Bridgend College has submitted a planning application to move into the vacant top floor of Brackla House on Brackla Street, located next to their new campus development at Cheapside.
The floor is set to house the Bevan College, Bridgend College’s specialist centre for post-16 learners with additional learning needs and learning disabilities.
The top floor will be reconfigured to house five classrooms, a multi-purpose vocational training room, a sensory room, multiple accessible toilets (including at least one changing places facility) and staff rooms.
Subject to approval, the Bevan College is set to move from its current base at Cowbridge Road in 2027.
The proposals don’t affect any of the existing tenants. As part of the plans, all of the windows would be replaced.
New security features – including mesh screens and lockable gates – would shut off unauthorised access to the undercroft parking area on the ground floor, which the accompanying report says “attracts unsolicited nighttime activity” and rough sleepers.
