Llanmoor Homes – the developers behind Tondu’s Pentre Felin development – have submitted an application seeking to relax a planning condition concerning road improvements.
In the original planning application – detailed plans for which were approved in 2020 – a maximum of 136 homes could be built and occupied before the developers would need to redirect Maesteg Road (“mini-bypass”) to join the Lidl/Ffordd Antwn roundabout (pictured above). This would take some pressure off the (notorious) Tondu railway bridge junction.
Although some site clearance has taken place, work on the mini-bypass stopped a while ago.
Llanmoor Homes wants to change the planning condition so a maximum of 235 homes – just over half of the total homes planned at the development – can be completed and occupied before they need to deliver the mini-bypass.
A traffic analysis carried out to support their application concluded that traffic along Maesteg Road hasn’t changed much since 2014. Additionally, the current road network can cope with the traffic already being generated by the development.
Llanmoor expects the 235-home limit to be reached in the summer of 2027. They believe 2027 is a “more realistic” timescale to deliver road layout changes.
