Bridgend Council is set to start rolling replacements and upgrades to the county’s recycling vehicle fleet (pdf).
Subject to approval, the first £1.13milion tranche will lead to BCBC buying 5 new recycling vehicles and refurbishing a further 3 vehicles.
This is expected to be the first year of a seven-year rolling programme, though the future model for waste and recycling services in the county beyond 2026 is yet to be decided.
The current fleet is showing its age, with vehicle breakdowns often being cited as the reason behind a large number of missed collections since Plan B took over the recycling contract in April.
The funding is subject to approval from the full council later today, as it forms part of broader changes to the council’s capital spending plans for 2024-25.
