Bridgend Council’s Cabinet has been updated on behind-the-scenes work to transfer waste and recycling services to council control (pdf).
BCBC is set to take direct control of the service in July 2027. The contract with Plan B was extended in 2025 to give officers enough time to work on the transfer.
In the report, officers say that, wherever possible, this work is being done so residents don’t notice any change to services.
The report also states that most of the work has focused on securing key suppliers. Currently, 130 suppliers provide goods and services such as plant, waste containers and IT systems.
One of the main risks facing the council is that if contracts are awarded without a competitive tender process (which is possible because there’s not enough time to do so), they might face a legal challenge from companies that miss out on the chance to bid.
