Bridgend Council’s Cabinet is set to approve changes to the 63 bus route (Bridgend to Porthcawl via Kenfig Hill) to serve the villages of Maudlam & Kenfig, Kenfig Pool Nature Reserve and Nottage (pdf).
The area had previously been served by the 861 – a council-funded route operated by Peyton Travel. The company altered the route in August 2019 as it wasn’t deemed to be commercially viable.
The 63B service – provided by First Cymru – was withdrawn a few months later in November 2019.
Subject to approval and confirmation of a start date, First Cymru will reinstate the 63B service by diverting one of the current 63 buses once an hour between 9:41 and 15:39 Monday-Saturday (proposed timetable – pdf).
The cost of running the route is estimated at just under £65,000 per year. This will be funded by the Welsh Government’s Bus Network Grant, which is set to run until the end of March 2029.
