As covered a few weeks ago, the future of leisure services was recently discussed by a council scrutiny committee.
Following those discussions, a report will be presented to BCBC’s Cabinet this week recommending that the current contract with Halo Leisure to provide leisure facilities in the county be extended (pdf).
The scrutiny committee were “confident” that a short-term extension would give BCBC time to consider a longer-term strategy for leisure services. They recommended further reports be drafted on the council’s long-term plans for leisure services as that work progresses.
Halo has already proposed a 5-year contract extension, which would take the current contract to March 2032. Services would be provided on the same basis as they are now.
The report says that Halo has already identified areas they can invest in to reduce running costs – particularly renewable energy and energy efficiency. Halo also remains committed to taking part in the Bridgend town centre District Heat Network (which has stalled).
Officers will be able to start work immediately on a contract extension, subject to Cabinet approval.
