Here’s a round-up of school inspection reports for the Summer 2024 term, due to be presented to BCBC’s Cabinet later this week (pdf).
No follow-up action at two schools
Both Ffaldau Primary (Pontycymer) and St. Robert’s RC Primary (Aberkenfig) came through without needing any further action.
Ffaldau Primary was praised for its work with pupils with Additional Learning Needs and for how they promote positive behaviour. There was additional praise for the effective work of the school’s leadership team and how teachers give feedback on pupils’ work.
The only areas requiring improvement were helping pupils to write at length and to improve attendance rates.
It was a similar picture at St. Robert’s RC Primary. It was said that pupils leave the school with strong literacy and numeracy skills. There was praise for the level of support for pupils’ emotional, health and social needs. The school is also described as having a “thoughtful and inclusive culture”, where the headteacher has established “a clear vision”.
The only recommendation was to improve how pupils use and develop digital skills.
School removed from list requiring Estyn review
Nantymoel Primary becomes the latest school in the county to be removed from the list of schools requiring ongoing Estyn review.
At the school’s previous inspection in January 2023, it was deemed to have not been making sufficient progress. The recommendations provided at the time covered safeguarding, improvements to leadership, better expectations for Years 3-6 and curriculum improvements.
Estyn has since concluded that the school has made enough progress for close monitoring to no longer be needed.
