Bridgend Council’s Cabinet has been asked to agree to changes to how the council works with private landlords to provide temporary accommodation (pdf).
The current scheme – run by Hafod Housing Association under the “Cartrefi Hafod” banner – provides rent guarantees and property management services for private landlords in exchange for offering temporary accommodation for the homeless and other priority groups.
Hafod will withdraw Cartrefi Hafod by the end of 2023, with tenants and landlords taking part in the scheme set to switch to a Welsh Government-backed programme called Leasing Scheme Wales.
Leasing Scheme Wales will mean that Bridgend Council can offer private landlords guaranteed rent for the length of a lease (at local housing allowance rates), grants of up to £25,000, property management services and tenant support.
Leasing Scheme Wales is backed by grant funding from the Welsh Government. The target is for a total of 88 properties in Bridgend to be available under the scheme by 2026-27.
