Although a recent planning application for a hydrogen production facility and solar farm at Bryncethin received no objections from statutory consultees, a recent public meeting demonstrated not-so-insignificant local opposition to the project.
The project – being developed in a partnership between Japanese conglomerate, Marubeni, and Bridgend Council – will produce hydrogen power for refuse vehicles, HGVs and buses and heating for nearby public buildings.
A recently-issued statement says that Cllr. Tim Thomas (Ind, St Brides Minor & Ynysawdre) declared his opposition to the proposal.
Concerns were also raised about infrastructure, “greenwashing” and fears “that this is a ‘done deal’ regardless of local concerns”.
Bridgend Council were also accused of not responding quickly enough to queries and Freedom of Information requests.
