Both Bridgend Council’s Cabinet and full council are expected to approve £370,000 to undertake design and survey work for a Welsh-medium “seedling school” in Porthcawl (pdf).
The plans for a seedling school form part of the council’s recently agreed Welsh-medium education strategy.
Subject to approval, the funding will be added to the council’s capital programme. The Welsh Government are expected to reimburse these costs once a full business case is submitted.
A “seedling school” would initially open with reception/early years classes then gradually expand to become a full-sized Welsh-medium primary school over several years.
This funding for survey work doesn’t mean the school will go ahead – though it’s a step forward. A further bid for money to construct the seedling school itself would need to be submitted in the future.
