Last week, Bridgend Council’s Governance & Audit Committee approved the introduction of a regulatory tracker.
It follows criticism from Audit Wales that Bridgend Council wasn’t making proper use of regulator reports and following through on recommendations (pdf).
Reports are discussed by various scrutiny committees. However, there isn’t a single log of recommendations from regulators or how they’re used to improve council services. Therefore, it’s hard to tell what’s being done in response to these (often critical) reports and to what timescale.
In response, the council has proposed a single “regulatory tracker” which would include “all completed audits, reviews, inspections and specific recommendations (Audit Wales) make to the Council.”
The report and proposals were welcomed by the committee. The committee agreed to plans to review this tracker twice a year – every January and July.
