The Cardiff City Region has shortlisted projects in its 10 member local authorities to receive funding to increase the “viability” of sites for housing (pdf).
The funding would be used in economically deprived areas where commercial housebuilders may not otherwise deem suitable for new housing.
One scheme in Bridgend county has been shortlisted to go to the next stage. The Bridgend funding would be worth £3.5million and deliver 186 homes.
It doesn’t say where. Additional details were deemed exempt from publication on commercial confidentiality grounds.
If I had to guess, it would be the former Revlon/Cosi factory in Maesteg. Contracts between the local authorities and the city region are expected to be signed by February 2022 at the latest.
A second Bridgend-based project for up to 240 homes (worth £4.5million) has been put on a reserve list.
In total, more than 2,200 homes could be delivered across the city region – the bulk of which being in Rhondda Cynon Taf.
There’s a separate Welsh Government-backed fund, but there were no Bridgend-based projects (the three projects are in Newport, Caerphilly and Cardiff).
