Bridgend Council has outlined their plans to keep key routes in the county ice and snow-free this winter.
BCBC is responsible for 790km (491 miles) of roads and as you might expect, the busiest/most-used roads will have priority for gritting and, where needed, snow clearance.
Secondary roads are dealt with on a case by case basis, while there are around 400 community gritting bins available in collaboration with community councils. Residents can use these bins to keep side streets, steep hills and minor junctions open.

Weather forecasts are said to be monitored daily and can be used to specify localised problems, such as on higher land and in the valleys.
Gritting only works in certain conditions and usually isn’t effective when the temperature falls below -10C. BCBC has a stock of 5,100 tons of salt grit and has arrangements with neighbouring councils to share stocks if necessary.
