There are no changes to the proposals. Bridgend Council still intends to buy and demolish the site. BCBC would then enter into a long-term lease with Bridgend College as part of plans for a new college campus at Cheapside.

Welsh Government funding towards the purchase and demolition was approved earlier this year. A price of £650,000 has been agreed upon between BCBC and South Wales Police, while the cost of purchase and demolition remains unchanged at £1.3million.

The report also sets out a timescale for when the work to demolish the police station can start.

South Wales Police are currently in the process of building up their presence at the police headquarters on Cowbridge Road.

Subject to being finalised, the contract – if agreed – will have a leaseback clause with South Wales Police to give them up to 12 months to complete the move from Cheapside to Cowbridge Road, but the report states that the station site could become vacant from any time after March 2022.

Talks are also continuing between BCBC and the police to find a suitable satellite office in Bridgend town centre for a day-to-day police presence.
