Last year, Bridgend Council approved a scheme whereby all qualifying people leaving the armed forces would be guaranteed an interview for jobs at the council.
Accompanying this, next week the Cabinet is set to approve a scheme whereby qualifying veterans will be offered work placements (pdf).
The goal will be to provide those leaving the armed forces from regiments which recruit in the local area with work experience they may otherwise lack as the first step towards transitioning to civilian life.
It may also give them an idea of what they would like to do post-military and may also, in the words of the report, “may generate a wider selection of high-quality candidates who may not otherwise have considered a career in local government.”
There’s no indication as to how long these work experience placements will last for or the eligibility criteria (similar to those for the guaranteed interview scheme).
