At the upcoming monthly Bridgend Council Cabinet meeting, members will be told about a recently-introduced guaranteed interview scheme for veterans (pdf).

While the report says the scheme won’t guarantee a job, it will – like some similar schemes for the disabled – guarantee a job interview if the applicant meets the essential criteria laid out for a specific role.

Officers believe this will help veterans overcome possible barriers adapting to civilian life after leaving the armed forces, including poor mental health, welfare issues and long-term unemployment. It also supports BCBC’s Armed Forces Covenant.

There’ll still be some terms and conditions attached. The scheme only applies to veterans who are either due to be discharged from the armed forces within 12 weeks of applying for a BCBC job, or have been discharged for a maximum of three years.
