Following the recent publication of a report on a review of Bridgend Council’s management of outdoor spaces – including sports pitches, parks and sports pavilion – officers have recommended to BCBC’s Cabinet that they approve a number of changes (pdf).

The changes are expected to save £438,000 in total.

The Cabinet is being asked to improve substantial increases in hire fees, which have been slightly revised from the original report:

Other recommendations set to be approved include:

  • Reduction in grass cutting along roadside verges from 7 times a year to 5 times a year and also granting the Cabinet Member for Communities powers to designate certain areas where grass cutting could end altogether.
  • Cutting all grants and changing lease arrangements for bowls clubs.
  • The Cabinet Member for Communities will draft a separate management strategy for Newbridge Fields in Bridgend.
  • Continued promotion of Community Asset Transfer of playgrounds to town & community councils and a possible “rationalisation” programme (i.e. closure/removal of some play areas).
