A planning application has been submitted (here) to convert the Porthcawl Hotel on John Street into 26 apartments and retail space.
The design and access statement (pdf) says:
“The development will provide affordable residential accommodation with commercial unit space to the ground floor. The application is for a sustainable development to take place in Porthcawl Town Centre and will comply with both the relevant local development planning policies and national planning guidance. The proposed development will bring about local regeneration benefits and will provide a high-quality mixed-use scheme to Porthcawl.”
The proposal would also see two small retail units and undercroft parking provided for 9 vehicles on the ground floor.
The first to fourth floors will be converted into 19 two-bedroom and 7 one-bedroom apartments.
The exterior of the building looks like it will remain unchanged, though the retail units will have frontage to complement existing shops on John Street as part of the town centre’s conservation area.
