Bridgend Council’s Licensing Committee has granted the Private Shop in Aberkenfig – run as part of UK chain Darker Enterprises Ltd – an extension to its sex establishment licence (pdf).
Sex shops require a specific licence to operate and have tighter restrictions on who can be employed, who can enter the premises and opening hours. Sex shops are also not allowed to advertise in a way that’s visible from the street.
There have been no responses from statutory consultees like the police, while the council’s licensing inspectors have found no breaches of previous conditions.
Committee Chair, Cllr. Richard Williams (Lab, Pencoed & Penprysg), noted that the shop has been in Aberkenfig “for many years” and to his knowledge “there haven’t been any problems there”.
