A four-classroom extension to Coety Primary School is set to be delayed by Bridgend Council’s Cabinet (pdf).
The primary school – which relocated to a new-build site at Parc Derwen in 2015 – has long been oversubscribed.
In 2022, behind-the-scenes work began on plans to expand to school to cope with the growth in the number of pupils in its catchment area. Following consultation and agreement, the original plan was for the extension to open in January 2025.
Due to funding delays and other requirements – such as the need for a transport plan – this date (obviously) hasn’t been met.
Officers state in the report that these delays have been resolved. A design team has also been appointed and a full planning application is expected soon.
It’s now expected that, if everything goes to plan, the extension will open in time for the 2026-27 school year (September 2026). The extension is expected to cost just under £2million.
