Bridgend Council has published its final budget plans for the 2025-26 financial year (pdf). A debate and vote will be held in full council next week (26th February).
There’s some uncertainty over precisely how much BCBC will have to spend as the Welsh Government currently faces difficulties getting its budget (which partially sets council budgets) through the Senedd. BCBC had to find £9.1million in cuts and savings this year – which is down by around £4million compared to last year.

Capital funding pays for one-off projects and infrastructure (pdf). The total amount of money available to BCBC for 2025-26 – including funding from Welsh Government and other grants – is just under £125million.
As is the case every year, most of this is dedicated to new and improved schools. £82.8million has been allocated towards school or school-related projects (like road safety improvements). These projects include the new Heronsbridge, Mynydd Cynffig, Ysgol Bro Ogwr and the joint site Afon-y-Felin/Ysgol Y Ferch o’r Sger. A little over £1.8million has also been allocated for the expansion of Coety Primary School.
Elsewhere, the other sizable commitment is £17.5million towards the Porthcawl Grand Pavilion renovation project.
£2million has been earmarked for playground upgrades and a further £1million towards community asset transfer projects.
£3million has been set aside for new vehicle charging points and a further £1million for road refurbishment. £3.6million is available for upgrade works to the Waterton highways depot, with another £3million available to purchase new recycling vehicles.
£3.9million is included for the Bridgend town centre/Sunnyside district heat project. £3million is also set aside for the regeneration project at Maesteg Ewenny Road.
£1.75million will be spent on disabled facilities grants, though this is set to increase to £2.25million a year from 2026-27 onwards.
£855,000 will be spent in the coming financial year to complete remedial works on homes affected by the Arbed scandal in Caerau.
