Two separate applications for a combined 66 apartments in Porthcawl have been recently submitted to Bridgend Council.
Firstly, a full application for a development at the former Fulgoni’s restaurant on John Street. The plans are unchanged from the pre-application consultation.
The developers – Linc Housing Association – propose 44 affordable apartments in a single five-story block, with the potential for further developments if the police station site becomes available.
A second separate application has been submitted by Beacon Cymru (formerly known as Coastal Housing) to convert the former Porthcawl Hotel, on the corner of John Street and Dock Street.
The ground floor would continue to be available for commercial use. The first to third floors would be converted into a total of 22 affordable apartments; 13 two-bedroom and 9 one-bedroom.
Approval for a partial conversion of the hotel was granted by BCBC in 2021, but this application is treated as a completely new one.
