A full planning application has been submitted for a replacement single-site Mynydd Cynffig Primary School in Kenfig Hill.
The new school is set to be built on land currently occupied by Mynydd Cynffig Junior School, the former air cadets centre (since moved to Porthcawl) and Pwllygath allotments.
The work is set to be divided into four phases.
Replacement allotments will be provided to the north of the site, with a dedicated access and parking area. These will be provided before any work starts on the new school itself.
Phase 2 will involve the construction of the new school buildings, while Phase 3 and Phase 4 will involve the demolition of the Junior School and the provision of parking facilities and all-weather sports pitches respectively.
It’s unclear at this time when work will start.
A recent update to Bridgend Council’s capital spending programme estimated the current cost of the new school to be £17.5million. The project is awaiting final business case approval from the Welsh Government.
The new school has already been a long time in the making, with an original replacement – then valued at £10million and due to be built on the grounds of Cynffig Comprehensive – being dropped in 2017.
