Bridgend Council’s Cabinet is set to approve a further seven town & community council-led projects as part of its Town & Community Council Capital Grant scheme (pdf).
Earlier this year, three projects were selected – though the scheme was left open for new or improved bids later in the 2024-25 financial year.
The seven successful bids in the second round are:
- Cefn Cribwr Community Council – Refurbishment of Cae Gof tennis courts (total project cost £16,000).
- Coity Higher Community Council x2 – A new toddler/infant playground at Llys Gwyn, Pendre (£27,400) and a footpath upgrade between Coity Castle and St. Mary’s Church (£11,500).
- Garw Valley Community Council – Replacement retaining wall, steps and handrail at The Strand (pictured above), Blaengarw (£33,000).
- Porthcawl Town Council – Habitat improvements for butterflies (£20,000).
- Pyle Community Council – 9 dropped kerb schemes in Pyle and Kenfig Hill (£8,000).
- St Brides Minor Community Council – New lighting along an unspecified footpath in Bryncethin (£9,000).
The only rejected proposal came from Llangynwyd Middle Community Council to relay tarmac on paths at Parc Tir Iarll. It was rejected for not meeting the council’s net-zero or Community Asset Transfer priorities.
One (unnamed) proposal was submitted late and won’t be considered in this financial year.
The TCC fund will provide half of the total project costs, totalling just over £61,000. The remaining £120,000 will roll over into the 2025-26 financial year.
