Caerau residents have launched a petition to the Senedd calling for “a fair deal” over long-delayed works to repair damage to homes caused by a Welsh Government and Bridgend Council-backed insulation scheme (Arbed).
Most of you are probably familiar with the scandal, but there’s further reading below:
Although funding is in place and a contractor has been appointed (Warmworks), the remedial work has faced even more delays.
The petition and the wider issue were raised in the Senedd yesterday by Luke Fletcher MS (Plaid, South Wales West):
“….I would like to ask that the Government puts a statement forward, in partnership with BCBC and Warmworks, to set out what the next steps are in terms of resolving this issue, and what the clear timescales are as well because, at the moment, there’s a severe lack of clarity for residents.
“Some residents, two months ago, were told that scaffolding would be up on their building in two weeks. We are two months on and nothing has happened. Some are being told the same again. So, in order to get some clarity here, we really need some leadership here from the Welsh Government.”
– Luke Fletcher MS
At the time of posting, the petition has 137 signatures. If it receives 250 or more signatures, it will be discussed by the Senedd’s Petitions Committee; if it receives over 10,000 signatures it’ll trigger a full Senedd debate.
You can view the petition and sign it here. It’s open until 12th January 2025.
