Bridgend Council’s Cabinet has published the final 2024-25 council budget (pdf).
The budget is set to be debated and put to a vote next Wednesday (28th February 2024).
The amount the council needed to find in cuts and savings – just over £13million – was down by around £3million compared to the draft budget, giving the council a little more wriggle room, but not much.

Capital funding is used to pay for one-off projects and infrastructure (pdf). The capital budget for 2024-25 is just over £110million.
As is usual, most of the capital programme is dedicated to new or improved schools. £42.7million has been allocated in 2024-25 towards the new Heronsbridge, Mynydd Cynffig and Ysgol Bro Ogwr schools.
Just under £20million has been allocated across the next two financial years for the Porthcawl Grand Pavilion refurbishment. Meanwhile, just under £1.2million has been added to complete the Maesteg Town Hall project.
Just over £3million has been included across the next two financial years concerning Arbed; I assume this is remedial work for homes affected by the Caerau insulation scandal.
Just over £3million has been allocated to extensions or new teaching blocks at Coety Primary and Bryntirion Comprehensive. £1.04million has also been allocated for work relating to the roll-out of universal free school meals in primary schools.
£2.8million is included for playground upgrades (a Labour manifesto commitment at the 2022 local elections).
£1million has been set aside for highway refurbishment, while £2.3million is set to be spent on the council’s vehicle fleet.
Bridgend Council will contribute just under £1.2million in capital funding to the Cardiff City Region.
