Plans have been submitted to Bridgend Council to convert the former Station Hotel in Caerau into 11 apartments and a ground floor cafe.

In the summer of 2021, Bridgend Council revoked the pub’s alcohol licence when weapons and drugs were found following a police raid. The closure was eventually made permanent.

In an accompanying statement, South Wales Police state that the Station Hotel has become a magnet for anti-social behaviour in Caerau since it closed.

The Station Hotel was eventually sold at auction for £250,000 in December 2021.

The plans propose 11 one-bedroom apartments across all floors (including the attached coach house) and a ground-floor retail unit – the layout hinting at being more suitable for a cafe or small restaurant than a pub.

Given the concerns about crime, additional security measures will be included such as balconies to discourage loitering and lockable gates.
