As you probably already know by now, Labour has narrowly secured a majority on Bridgend County Borough Council in this week’s local elections.

Sitting councillors who lost their seats
- Tom Beedle (Ind, Maesteg East).
- Cheryl Green (Lib Dem, Bryntirion, Laleston & Merthyr Mawr) – Former Leader of Bridgend County Borough Council.
- Brian Jones (Ind, Porthcawl East Central).
- Dhanisha Patel (Lab, Ogmore Vale) – Former Cabinet Member for Wellbeing & Future Generations.
- Aniel Pucella (Con, Brackla West – previously elected to Brackla).
- Kay Rowlands (Con, Brackla East & Coychurch Lower – previously elected to Brackla).
- Charles Smith (Lab, Cefn Glas – previously elected to Llangewydd & Brynhyfryd) – Former Cabinet Member for Education & Regeneration.
- Gary Thomas (Lab, St Bride’s Minor & Ynysawdre – previously elected to Bryncethin) – Former Chair of the Planning Committee.
- Matthew Voisey (Con, Oldcastle) – At the time of the election he was the leader of the Conservative opposition group.
- David White (Lab, Bridgend Central – previously elected to Newcastle).
One of the big things to note at this election is the massive turnover in councillors. 23 stood down ahead of the election and now a further 10 sitting councillors lost their seats.
There were two “shock” results (as in widely unexpected, though local factors and boundary changes will have had an impact) and that’s the loss of former Cabinet Members – Charles Smith and Dhanisha Patel – losing their seats to Independents.
