This week, Bridgend Council is finalising and set to approve its budget for the coming financial year.

This money is used to pay for new one-off projects and infrastructure (pdf).
As is usually the case, the bulk of capital spending is dedicated to schools, with around £6.2million expected to be spent on the latest phase of the Band B school modernisation programme. Just under £1million has been earmarked for two Welsh-medium childcare centres in Bridgend and Porthcawl (construction recently started on a centre in Blackmill).
Porthcawl regeneration is another beneficiary with just under £2million allocated for the new council-led project at Cosy Corner and a further £3.4million for other regeneration-related projects. £1.9million is set aside for the new Porthcawl bus station.
Bridgend Council is set to contribute £3.14million towards Cardiff Capital Region projects.
The £3.5million for works to repair damage caused by the Caerau insulation scandal is included, as is another £3.5million for works to redevelop the Maesteg Ewenny Road site – the latter being a grant from the City Region.
Elsewhere, there’s also funding for the two major district heat schemes in Bridgend town centre/Sunnyside (£3million) and Caerau (£5.9million). Both have been beset by problems so it remains to be seen when/if anything will happen. That’s similarly the case with the proposed £8.14million Waterton council depot – which has been planned for years but without any work starting.
