Bridgend Council’s Cabinet is to consider a formal consultation with interested parties over an extension to public space protection and alley gating orders.
The protection orders are supposed to cut anti-social behaviour by limiting activities within their boundaries such as drinking in public, poor dog ownership and loitering.
Alcohol Restricted Areas (pdf – p7-13)
BCBC proposes to extend the current ban on drinking alcohol in public for the entirety of Porthcawl, Pencoed, Caerau, Maesteg town centre and Bridgend town centre (the maps are included in the link).
The Bridgend town centre designated area includes Newbridge Fields, Sunnyside, Coity Road (as far as the Princess of Wales Hospital junction), St. Marie Street, South Street, Glanogwr and most of Merthyr Mawr Road.
The only proposed change (pdf) is to include the Wildmill Park/former Quarella Quarry (pictured above) in the alcohol designated zone for Bridgend town centre.
Alley Gating Orders (pdf – p1-6)
The proposal is to maintain the current alley gate order for the rear lane between Talbot Street and Plasnewydd Street in Maesteg town centre.
However, a gating order for a lane between Welsey Street and Lloyd Street in Caerau will come to an end.
Dog Control Order (pdf)
The council will seek to extend the current dog control order for public open spaces in the entire county.
The order makes it an offence to not clean up after dogs; be in control of a dog in a public open space without means to clean up after dog (i.e bags); refuse to put a dog on a lead when requested to do so.
Disabled persons are exempt if their disability would prevent them from following the rules as stated.
If approved, a statutory consultation on the new orders will start in February 2022.
