Housebuilder Persimmon has submitted a planning application for an equipped playground at the southern end of Parc Derwen, after they were granted permission in August 2020 to develop more than 100 homes on the last parcel of available land.
One of the main points of concern from members of the council’s planning committee at the time was a failure by developers to fulfil commitments to install local playgrounds.
The main playing field and all-weather pitch aside, there’s currently (to my knowledge) only one equipped playground on the ~1,500 home estate. The original development brief stated there should be four equipped playgrounds.
At last August’s planning committee meeting, members were told that Persimmon were subject to a new a condition that the playground would be installed near the Heol Stradling-Ffordd y Celyn junction during September-October 2020.
While the second wave of Covid-19 justifies a delay, if the installation is delayed until the spring it would be up to six months after the timescale Persimmon committed to.
