Developers Xcape recently submitted plans to build 54 apartments on the site of the former Glamorgan Hotel in Porthcawl.
The Glamorgan Hotel – previously owned by the former Mid, West and South Glamorgan county councils – provided holiday accommodation for the elderly and the disabled. It was taken over by the disability charity Cartrefi Cymru in 2015 with a promised £1million makeover, However, it closed in 2016 due to lack of custom as other hotels improve accessibility.
Xcape bought the site in 2016-17 and held a pre-application consultation earlier this year before submitting the plans.
The apartments will be accessed directly off The Portway, with 64 undercroft parking spaces provided.
The plans include 28 one-bedroom, 21 two-bedroom and 5 three-bedroom apartments across five floors. 16 of the apartments will be affordable (in a separate block from the open market apartments) and a landscaped communal garden will be built at the front, facing The Portway.
