One of the 2019-20 Bridgend Council budget measures due to be discussed by BCBC’s Cabinet next week is a reduction to opening hours at Bridgend’s three community recycling centres in Tythegston, Brynmenyn and Maesteg (pdf).
The proposal to cut opening hours by one hour a day was backed by 57% of people who responded to the budget consultation.
At the moment, the tips open from 08:30-20:00 during summer weekdays and 08:30-18:00 at summer weekends and bank holidays (summer defined as 1st April to 30th September). The opening hours during the rest of the year are 08:30-16:30 every day.
It’s unclear yet whether the tips will open an hour later or close an hour earlier, or open half an hour later and close half an hour earlier. That decision will be made by the Interim Chief Executive in consultation with Kier and once a decision has been made BCBC will issue an update.
It’s expected the new policy will save £17,000 a year.
