With the new Pencoed Primary due to open in September 2018, attentions turn to the current school site on Penprysg Road.
In the last few weeks, Jehu Group and Hafod housing association have submitted plans (above) for 12 1-bedroom apartments and 28 two to four bedroom homes. 70 car parking spaces will be provided and the entire development is said to be “100% affordable”.
The main access is proposed to be off Wimborne Road, though the apartments will have their own access at the south-eastern corner of the site. Existing stone walls will also be retained to minimise the impact on St David’s Church.
The site was included for housing in the Local Development Plan, but only for 10 units. A later design brief said the site was capable of holding 20-30 units, but the developers plan 40 units. The developers defend this by saying that as the area is already densely developed, it wouldn’t appear out of character.
