Tynyrheol Primary, which is based in Llangeinor and was successfully saved from closure in 2014, has been deemed to be “unsatisfactory and in need of urgent improvement” in management, teaching and standards following an Estyn inspection.

The Estyn inspection report, undertaken in June 2018, is available here (pdf).

The Bridgend Council report (pdf) – to be discussed by the Cabinet next week – says the school will now have to draft an action plan, and Estyn will monitor the school’s progress on a termly basis.

The most disturbing finding in the Estyn report is that Tynyrheol has what’s described as “a substantial budget deficit” and at the time hadn’t agreed to a deficit reduction programme with BCBC.

BCBC say an “experienced deputy headteacher” from another school in Bridgend county has been drafted in as an interim headteacher. The Chair of Governors is also said to be providing weekly updates to BCBC.

I should make it clear that Tynyrheol isn’t the school that received the “red notice” in the summer. That school is still undertaking an urgent improvement plan as far as I know. If there are any further updates, I’ll of course return to it.
