Here’s an update on the progress of some important planning applications in the Bridgend area.
Sunnyside House apartment project altered
Linc Housing Association recently submitted revised plans for apartments at the former Sunnyside House on Angel Street (the former Water Board offices).
The original plans were submitted in December 2022. The changes include:
- Alterations to the building’s design (pictured). The new design has a slightly smaller footprint and is “L-shaped”. The number of floors has also been cut from 6 to 5.
- The number of apartments has been cut to 62 ( 60 one-bedroom and 2 two-bedroom apartments that will be reserved for wheelchair users). The previous plans were for 65 apartments (46 one-bed, 13 two-bed).
- Plans for a smaller two-storey 6-apartment complex in the northern half of the site have been dropped.
- The number of parking spaces has been increased from 16 to 30, two of which will be wider/accessible.
Modified plans for Brackla Aldi

Updated plans have also been submitted for a proposed Aldi supermarket off the Ffordd Cadfan roundabout in Brackla.
The plans were originally submitted in December 2023.
There are no changes to the size or layout of the proposed store. The number of disabled, parent & child and EV charging spaces also remains unchanged.
As for where things have changed, the entrance junction and layout of the car park have been altered to include extra crossing points for pedestrians. As a result, the total number of parking spaces has been cut from 126 to 118. Cycle parking spaces have also been moved closer to the entrance.
Land has been set aside for a future walking and cycling route linking the Ffordd Cadfan roundabout to Brackla Industrial Estate. This may form part of walking and cycling improvements tied to the new Ysgol Bro Ogwr, which will be built directly next to the proposed supermarket.
